Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Lift also known as Blepharoplasty, is an operation that will enhance your entire appearance by removing excess skin above the eyes. The eyes are said to be the windows to the soul, yet it becomes harder for others to look through those lovely windows as we age. Our eyelids begin to sag and lose their flexibility as we get older. They may therefore give you a considerably older and weary look. But don’t worry there is still hope. Your appearance will be more youthful and confident with a Blepharoplasty operation. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a fantastic method to look youthful and dynamic, whether your motivations are purely cosmetic or medical.

Blepharoplasty necessitates an in-depth understanding of the anatomy of the eyelids, comprehensive preop evaluation, and meticulous attention to detail. Finding an experienced and qualified surgeon is a crucial part of a successful operation, the area around the eyes is very delicate and brittle. Call us right away to schedule a consultation!

Eyelid Operation Candidates

Your age has no bearing on determining whether you are a good candidate. Before agreeing to do you the surgery, we will first assess the condition of your skin. However, most blepharoplasty candidates are over the age of 35 because this is usually the age at which slight drooping of the eyelids becomes noticeable.

Eyelid aesthetics is a unique aesthetic procedure for people who want to reduce the presence of eye bags and the appearance of drooping eyelids. Also, did you know that this surgery has another purpose? This operation is also performed for functional purposes in people whose eyelids are very droopy which prevents them from seeing. In such cases, surgery can significantly improve patients’ daily lives.

Types of Blepharoplasty Operations

Upper Eyelid – This procedure is intended to address puffiness, sagging skin, or fat on the upper lids. This type is commonly performed on people in their 50s and 60s.

Lower Eyelid – This procedure is intended to address bags beneath the eyes and excess skin on the lower lids.

Double Eyelid – This procedure is performed to treat both sides of the eyelids. Many people choose this procedure to look younger.

"BAGS!" What are those?

Bags under the eye appear as a result of the fat that supports our eyes weakening with age, causing the lower eyelids to sag or drive forward, creating a swollen and puffy appearance. Some people are born with under-eye bags, while others develop them as they age.

In some cases, extra fluids can also accumulate in the area beneath your eyes, which causes even more puffiness. Smoking, allergies, and lack of sleep can all contribute to under-eye fluid retention.

Recovery After Eyelid Surgery

Following eyelid surgery, the patient is observed in the room for two to three hours while antibiotic cream and ice are applied to the surgical site. The eyes don’t need to be covered or taped. If no problem occurs, the patient is discharged in the same day and ice should be applied for 48 to 72 hours. For about a week, it is advised to apply an antibiotic eye ointment to the wound site every morning and night. Depending on the patient’s structure and the type of operation, swelling and bruising are normal side effects and may last anywhere from a few days and a few weeks. The recovery will be quick and painless if you rest and limit your activities for the first two to three days. It is not advised to bend forward, lift weights, or go on lengthy walks during this time.

For the first 4-5 days, it would be best to avoid getting water on the wounds. After roughly a week, stitches are removed, and no more special care is required. After 4-6 weeks in any incision, a rapid remodeling phase occurs as the wound reddens and tightens, and the previously visible scars become unnoticeable within weeks.

For the first two weeks, it is advised to avoid the sea, the pool, and vigorous exercise; however, if vigorous exercise is progressively increased beginning on the tenth day, the recovery will be more effective. In most cases, patients can return to their desk jobs after the third day and to their physically demanding jobs after the first week.

Results

You need to think about how your eyes will look in a few decades while determining whether or not a blepharoplasty is an ideal procedure for you. You can benefit from a blepharoplasty’s long-lasting results for many years to come. Once that skin has been removed, it won’t regenerate. Nevertheless, you’ll keep getting older. Therefore, even though your eyelids may appear wonderful for decades, the outcomes of your eyelid lift may change slightly as you get older and lose more flexibility, but they should still be pleasant. You can surely reduce the impacts of aging, but you won’t be able to stop it.

Shortly after your procedure, you will notice a change in your eyelids. But your final results can initially be hidden by post-operative swelling and discolouration. Even though many patients resume their jobs 1–2 weeks following blepharoplasty, it could take a few weeks for your swelling to totally go down. In roughly 4 to 6 weeks after your procedure, you should be able to see the complete results of your cosmetic eyelid surgery.
